Our first step is to review the individual's existing assets and how they are being put to work. Significant time is spent on determining individual needs, risk tolerances and preferences. Short and long-term investment objectives and the relative importance of income and capital gain are agreed upon.
With this information, a financial and estate planning program is developed and tailored to the client's financial needs, tax structure and personal preferences.
When we make investment decisions for our clients, protection of capital and avoidance of undue risk are prime concerns. We believe this conservative approach to investment ensures the best returns over the long term. No annual targets are set for clients' portfolios because no two successive years offer the same opportunities. That said, our goal remains to provide above market returns with below market risk.
Our investment strategy since the firm's inception has resulted in portfolios under our management consistently surpassing the benchmark indices for the markets in which we invest.
Portfolios are managed on a discretionary basis using individual securities rather than pooled funds. Clients receive a quarterly report that reviews the investment strategy and provides a forward looking analysis of the financial markets. These quarterly reports include an inventory of the investments held, identifying market values along with cost and a summary of all gains and losses in the preceding quarter. Portfolio performance is generally reviewed on an annual basis (or more frequently if requested). Client meetings can be held at any time and offer the opportunity to review any aspect of the portfolio or any proposed changes to the Investment Objectives.
